Andrew Berthelson is passionate about sketching, painting, sculpting and photography. He was born in 1973 in Ballito, Kwazulu Natal, South Africa. Andrew’s family loved the outdoors and he spent much of his childhood absorbing the landscapes, wildlife and people of Zululand. This is where his inspiration began, and those early experiences are still evident in his work today.

Africa has a timeless, rugged texture. Part of Andrew’s desire to capture this texture led him to experiment with handmade papers. Soon he had produced a unique quality paper using the materials and natural fibres of the African bushveld. Since completing his schooling in 1990, Andrew has painted for a living – doing what he loves most – perfecting his art on both his handmade paper and canvas. Apart from holding solo exhibitions, he has had commissions from all over the world. His paintings also hang in various world renowned lodges including Tshukudu in South Africa, and King’s Pool in Botswana.

Andrew now lives and works from his home and studio in St Francis Bay, South Africa, with his wife Rowena, and two daughters, Shannon Skye and Darrah Jade.
